Job Description:

The Monitoring and Evaluation Assistant will be responsible for monitoring the implementation of the projects’ activities and ensuring the overall project quality. The position holder will monitor and evaluate the implementation of all project activities; and work closely with the project’s teams to provide feedback and thus reporting the achieved results. The incumbent will also lead on collecting all of the required data from the field and report on the project’s framework and the required project’s donor reports.

Key responsibilities:

  • Ensure local authorities and communities have been sensitized to the project’s objectives, activities, and selection criteria and that these processes have been adhered to during project selection.
  • Take into account the structures of local government and communities and ensure all project activities have considered the needs of vulnerable groups, and the environment.
  • Ensure that the planned activities are conducted timely and beneficiaries receive the items without hindrances.
  • Assist in conducting baseline and end line surveys, verifications, observational monitoring ensuring that quality data is collected from the field.
  • Handle feedback mechanism data, and ensuring that complaints and suggestions are followed up on by the project team.
  • Assist in creating appropriate monitoring tools for project impact, quality, post distribution monitoring, etc.
  • Conduct regular feedback sessions with the project team to ensure that all findings are addressed and adjustments made to the project throughout implementation.
  • Prepare a detailed implementation plan (monthly/weekly plans).
  • Perform analysis of quantitative and qualitative data, producing graphics and summaries, leading to dashboards with presenting the results of the analysis.
  • Carry out regular implementation monitoring and submit relevant reports to the senior MEAL officer (weekly, monthly report and project final evaluation report).
  • Ensure quality and integrity of implementation and administrative systems.
  • Conduct regular field monitoring visits to identify challenges and present to the program management for corrective actions.
  • Participate in the documenting lessons learnt, best practice and case studies to contribute to sector learning.
  • Work collaboratively with the project team to maximize efficiencies and effectiveness.
  • Any other tasks assigned from the Line Manager.

Position requirements

  • Bachelor Degree in social science or other discipline relevant to MEAL.
  • A minimum 2 years of experience in program monitoring, evaluation, and learning as well as establishing accountability mechanisms.
  • Very good command of English language (Speaking and writing skills);
  • Ability to use MS. Office, MS. Excel in particular;
  • Good contextual knowledge of local issues, community priorities, social and cultural constraints and realities
  • Experience in MEAL activities, accountability-related tasks in particular is highly preferred.
  • Good organizational skills, the ability to pay close attention to detail and capable of reporting in a timely manner.
  • A confident, flexible and initiative-taking attitude with the ability to work independently, to be proactive in working with others, a willingness and commitment to work long hours and/or over weekends and to spend considerable amount of time in remote field sites.
