According to the Yemen Humanitarian Situation Report – 2019, about 19.7 million people need health assistance in Yemen. Two-thirds of the districts (203 out of 333) are in dire need due to poor access to health services, displacement, and deteriorating social and economic conditions. In addition, 7.4 million people require services to treat or prevent malnutrition, including 4.4 million in acute need.
This includes 3.2 million people needing treatment for acute malnutrition: 2 million children under five years of age and 1.14 million pregnant and lactating mothers.
There are many accelerating factors affecting the collapse of the health system and the decline of public health services in Yemen, including; Operation of about 51% of health facilities, limited access to health care, lack of salaries for health staff, damage to health facilities and difficulty in importing medicines and medical supplies.
