The Field Medical Foundation (FMF) has been operating in Yemen for since 2012 during even the most dangerous peak of the conflict in the region. Today we have helped humanitarian aid reach the hands of more than 9 million vulnerable people in Yemen to help them not only to survive but also to rebuild their lives. We aim to provide a comprehensive approach to providing aid through interventions, which is why we work in almost all sectors of international emergency relief.

Field Medical Foundation (FMF), with support from OXFAM, is implementing a project aimed at addressing the adverse consequences of conflicts and climate change on protection needs and food insecurity through community-focused responses in Yemen. Within the scope of this project, FMF is providing psychosocial support services to vulnerable individuals at the community center in Al-Wadi district. These services are crucial for ensuring that the targeted beneficiaries receive the necessary emotional and psychological support to cope with their challenging circumstances.
POSITION SUMMARY
The psychologist will provide psychosocial support vulnerable individuals referred by FMF’s case management team. The role involves facilitating individual and group sessions, delivering evidence-based therapies for anxiety, depression, and PTSD, and helping beneficiaries build coping skills and resilience. Collaboration with case managers is key to ensuring a holistic approach to client care.
POSITION DESCRIPTION/ KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The consultant (psychologist) shall be responsible for:
- Conduct in-depth assessments of beneficiaries referred by case managers. This may involve clinical interviews, standardized psychological tests Facilitating group support activities.
- Support the development of information awareness sessions, individual and collective PSS and recreational activities.
- Provide one-on-one counseling sessions to beneficiaries, utilizing evidence-based techniques and approaches to address trauma, stress, and other psychological distresses.
- Maintaining detailed case records and submitting monthly progress reports to FMF.
- Develop and implement mechanisms to monitor and evaluate the impact of the psychological support provided.
- Develop individualized intervention plans for each beneficiary based on the assessment findings, considering their specific needs and goals, and in consultation with the case management team.
- Provide individual psychotherapy sessions to address identified psychosocial issues using evidence-based therapeutic approaches.
- Maintain detailed case notes with informed consent, progress reports, and discharge summaries for each beneficiary.
- Ensure that data protection protocols are respected and ensure to keep complete and well organized records.
- Ensure that all emergency cases are addressed immediately and shared with the case management team for potential intervention.
- Collaborate with case managers to ensure integrated and comprehensive support for beneficiaries. This may involve sharing updates, coordinating referrals, and discussing case progress.
- Adhere to all professional and ethical guidelines regarding confidentiality, client rights, and informed consent.
- Timely flag out any challenges or constraints to Project Officer and provide suitable solutions and mitigating measures proposed or to be implemented.
Deliverables
- Regular updates on psychological support activities, challenges, and successes. Evidence of completed cases (e.g., summaries of counseling sessions, group activity reports).
- Detailed records of communication and follow-up with beneficiaries.
- Documentation of referrals made to specialized services.
- Individual counseling sessions with beneficiaries, including progress notes and recommendations.
- Assessment reports for each referred beneficiary, outlining their psycho-social needs and intervention plans. (Detailed psychological assessment reports for each referred beneficiary.)
- Individualized treatment plans for beneficiaries receiving therapy.
- Final report: Prepare a Comprehensive report summarizing the psychological support provided, outcomes achieved, lessons learned, and recommendations for future interventions.
Fees and Payment
The consultant will receive payment in three instalments. The first payment of 30% will be made upon successful achievement of 60 cases receiving the PSS and the cases closed his side and share all the treatment plans and documents for each case. The second payment of 40% will be made upon reaching 140 cases receiving the PSS and the cases closed his side and share all the treatment plans and documents for each case. The final payment of 30% will be disbursed upon achieving 100% of the target (200 beneficiaries), submission of the final report, and fulfilling all reporting requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
The ideal consultant (psychologist) should have the following qualifications:
- A degree in psychology or related fields.
- Professional certification or license to practice psychology.
- Proven experience in providing psychosocial support services to individuals affected by trauma, displacement, or similar challenges, particularly in counseling and therapy.
- Proficiency in evidence-based therapeutic approaches and techniques.
- Strong counseling and communication skills, with the ability to establish rapport and create a safe therapeutic environment.
- Ability to work with vulnerable populations and maintain confidentiality.
- Knowledge and understanding of the local context and cultural sensitivities.
- Familiarity with the psychosocial challenges faced by conflict-affected populations.
- Proficiency in Arabic (both written and spoken); knowledge of English is an advantage.
