POSITION SUMMARY
The Girl Shine program is an evidence-based approach developed by the International Rescue Committee (IRC) to support the empowerment and protection of adolescent girls in humanitarian contexts. The program aims to reduce the risks of gender-based violence (GBV) and support the well- being of girls aged 10–19 through life skills education, mentorship, caregiver engagement, and community mobilization.
The Girl Shine assistant will be responsible for the implementation, monitoring, and reporting of Girl Shine activities in target communities. S/he will coordinate the delivery of life skills sessions for adolescent girls, supervise mentors, engage caregivers, and work closely with GBV and protection teams to ensure quality, safety, and effectiveness of the intervention.
POSITION KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead the implementation of the Girl Shine curriculum for adolescent girls in safe spaces.
- Identify and enroll eligible girls (ages 10–14 and 15–19) in coordination with community focal Points.
- Facilitate or supervise structured life skills sessions focusing on empowerment and GBV awareness.
- Support the setup, organization, and maintenance of safe spaces for girls.
- Train and supervise community-based Girl Shine mentors/facilitators.
- Provide regular mentoring, coaching, and support to mentors to ensure quality delivery.
- Organize refresher training and learning sessions for mentors as needed.
- Facilitate sessions for caregivers using the Girl Shine caregiver curriculum.
- Engage with community leaders and stakeholders to ensure support and safety for adolescent girls.
- Support community events and outreach activities to promote girls’ protection and empowerment.
- Monitor participation and session quality using Girl Shine monitoring and evaluation tools.
- Collect and address feedback from girls and mentors to improve the program.
- Contribute to monthly reports, success stories, and assessments related to Girl Shine activities.
- Ensure confidentiality and adherence to GBV guiding principles in all activities.
- Coordinate with GBV case workers to refer girls in need of additional support or protection.
- Work with other sectors (e.g., education, child protection, health) to ensure comprehensive support for participants.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- This position is open to females only, in line with program objectives to ensure a safe and supportive environment for adolescent girls.
- University degree in social work, psychology, education, gender studies, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in protection, GBV, or youth/adolescent-focused programming.
- Familiarity with the Girl Shine approach or similar adolescent girl- centered interventions.
- Experience in facilitating group sessions or life skills training.
- Strong skills in community engagement and mobilization.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and apply survivor-centered and child safeguarding principles.
- Good communication skills
- Ability to work effectively with diverse teams and under minimal supervision.
- Strong organizational, reporting, and time management skills
