Our staff of dedicated professionals and passionate volunteers are the helping hand that delivers aid from local and\/or international partners to those who require it the most, in a country that was already suffering before the war. Today we have helped humanitarian aid reach the hands of more than 9 million vulnerable people in Yemen to help them not only to survive but also to rebuild their lives. We aim to provide a comprehensive approach to providing aid through interventions, which is why we work in almost all sectors of international emergency relief.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><u>POSITION SUMMARY:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Agronomist will provide technical leadership and quality assurance for all agricultural and climate-resilience activities under FuTuRe Project. The position will conduct agronomic assessments, prepare technical specifications, support procurement, supervise field implementation and input distributions, and deliver practical training and extension support to farmers and project staff. Working closely with the Project Manager, Project Engineer, MEAL team, support departments, local authorities and communities, the Agronomist will ensure that activities are technically sound, climate-responsive, inclusive, properly documented and implemented in accordance with FMF and WFP requirements, safeguarding standards and approved project plans.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><u>MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-black-color\">Start-up Assessments and Technical Planning:<\/mark><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">Review the approved project proposal, budget, technical studies, designs, BoQs, implementation schedule and relevant FMF\/WFP requirements; identify agricultural assumptions, gaps, seasonal constraints and technical risks.<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Conduct and document agronomic site assessments covering current cropping systems, crop calendars, soil condition, water availability and quality, irrigation practices, land degradation, flood exposure, pests and diseases, farmer capacity, input availability and local market considerations.<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Prepare an inception action plan and a seasonally realistic agronomic implementation calendar aligned with procurement lead times, cropping windows, beneficiary participation, cash-transfer cycles and asset completion dates.<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Recommend locally appropriate crops, varieties, planting materials, agronomic practices and demonstration approaches based on agroecological suitability, water efficiency, farmer preference, market potential and climate risk.<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Define clear technical acceptance criteria and measurable agronomic targets for each component, including survival, establishment, adoption, functionality and production indicators where applicable.<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Prepare and submit a clear monthly workplan specifying activities, tasks, responsibilities, expected outputs and procurement needs for review by the Project Manager; update it regularly and proactively flag risks, delays and required decisions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Technical Design, Specifications and Procurement Support:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">Prepare or review technical specifications and quantities for seeds, seedlings, growing media, fertilizers and soil amendments, compost materials, irrigation accessories, hydroponic materials, windbreak and afforestation inputs, tools, protective equipment and other agricultural supplies.<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Provide agronomic design requirements for the modern irrigation network, canal rehabilitation and other water-management assets, including crop-water needs, plot layout, irrigation scheduling, soil considerations and farmer operation requirements; coordinate these inputs with the Project Engineer.<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Develop practical technical packages for the hydroponics demonstration, soil-improving crops (including cowpea and alfalfa), afforestation and windbreaks, climate-smart agriculture demonstrations, organic compost production and canal lime-wash activity.<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Support market assessment and technical feasibility work for women-led community-based animal-feed production, including assessment of locally available crop residues and raw materials, production safety, storage, quality and market linkage; coordinate specialist livestock or feed-formulation support where required.<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Participate in technical bid evaluations when assigned, respond to procurement clarifications, inspect samples and delivered inputs, document compliance or non-compliance, and provide written technical acceptance recommendations before distribution or use.<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Maintain traceable inspection records for seed quality, germination or viability evidence, seedling health, quantities, batch information, storage conditions and other relevant quality parameters.<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Prepare and submit timely Finance Requests and Purchase Requisitions for assigned agricultural activities; coordinate requirements in advance with Finance, Procurement and Logistics; upload complete supporting documents; and follow up to resolve gaps and prevent implementation delays.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&nbsp;Field Implementation and Quality Assurance:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">Provide regular on-site technical supervision during land preparation, planting, establishment, irrigation, crop management, hydroponic operation, nursery or seedling handling, windbreak planting, compost production and other agricultural activities.<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Conduct regular field visits and submit a concise visit report to the Project Manager by the following working day, recording progress, quality findings, constraints, agreed corrective actions and follow-up responsibilities.<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Establish demonstration plots and farmer-learning arrangements that allow beneficiaries to practice and compare improved methods under local conditions.<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Prepare and update field checklists covering site readiness, soil preparation, seed and seedling handling, planting density, irrigation, nutrient management, weed control, integrated pest management, safe storage and post-harvest handling.<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Diagnose crop, soil, water, pest and disease problems; prescribe practical corrective actions; follow up their completion; and immediately escalate material risks to the Project Manager.<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Coordinate with the Project Engineer on interfaces between agricultural production and civil works. The Agronomist will confirm agronomic suitability and functionality, while the Engineer remains responsible for structural design, quantities, construction quality and civil-work certification.<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Verify that agricultural inputs and demonstrations are used for their intended purpose and that no technically unacceptable material is distributed, planted or installed.<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Support the timely and transparent distribution of agricultural and livelihood inputs; verify quantities, technical quality and beneficiary receipt against approved lists and documents; and promptly report discrepancies, protection concerns or access obstacles through the appropriate channels.<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Support development and testing of operation and maintenance arrangements with farmers, water-user groups, community committees and responsible authorities before asset handover.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Farmer <\/strong><strong>Training<\/strong><strong>, Extension and Capacity Strengthening<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">Conduct training-needs assessments and prepare simple, practical and context-appropriate training materials in Arabic, supported by visual job aids and field demonstrations.<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Lead or support farmer training and coaching on climate-smart agriculture, water-efficient irrigation, soil health, organic compost, hydroponics, crop selection, crop rotation, nursery and seedling management, windbreaks, integrated pest management, safe use of agricultural inputs, harvesting and post-harvest handling.<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Prepare training plans, session outlines, facilitator notes, participant materials, pre\/post assessments and follow-up coaching schedules; ensure content is technically accurate and accessible to participants with different literacy levels.<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Coach project field staff, site supervisors, community facilitators and lead farmers so that technical messages remain consistent throughout implementation.<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Promote meaningful participation of women, persons with disabilities and vulnerable farmers, including adaptation of venues, timing, demonstrations and communication methods where needed.<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Support the field team in scheduling and delivering training sessions and workshops, and ensure that attendance sheets, pre\/post assessments, participant materials, photographs and other required Means of Verification (MoVs) are complete and properly archived.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Climate Resilience, Environmental Safeguards and Safe Practice:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">Apply climate-smart agriculture principles that improve productivity and resilience while using land and water responsibly; avoid recommendations that increase unsustainable groundwater abstraction or create unacceptable environmental or social risks.<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Support environmental and social risk screening for agricultural activities and implement agreed mitigation measures, including safe material handling, soil and water protection, waste management, invasive-species avoidance and responsible use of agrochemicals.<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Prioritize integrated pest management and non-chemical measures. Where pesticides or other hazardous inputs are considered, ensure they are legally permitted, technically justified, safely stored and applied by trained persons using appropriate protective equipment and approved procedures.<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Monitor water-use efficiency, soil condition, plant survival and other climate-resilience indicators; recommend timely adaptation when field evidence shows underperformance or emerging risk.<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Integrate do-no-harm, conflict sensitivity, occupational safety, protection, gender and accountability considerations into technical decisions and field activities.<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Adhere at all times to FMF\u2019s Code of Conduct, safeguarding and Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) requirements; complete all mandatory training; identify and mitigate risks to staff and participants; and immediately refer concerns through authorized confidential reporting channels.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Monitoring, Learning and Reporting:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">Work with the MEAL team to define agronomic indicators, data sources, baselines, targets, sampling methods and verification evidence, and to develop or refine monitoring tools for project quality, Post-Distribution Monitoring and Indicator Performance Tracking Table (IPTT) reporting.<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Maintain accurate, sex- and age-disaggregated participant records where applicable, along with geo-referenced site records, photographs, input-inspection evidence, field observations, training results and corrective-action logs.<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Monitor and support the timely entry of weekly and monthly indicator and activity data into KoBo, including attendance, distribution and asset records; verify entries against the corresponding MoVs and promptly correct inconsistencies.<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Compile and archive complete, organized and auditable MoVs each month; work with the MEAL team to keep project databases current, address feedback, implement quality-visit recommendations and respond promptly to Field Monitoring Visit Reports in the FMF MEAL SharePoint system.<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Track progress against the approved workplan and indicators, including areas established or served, training delivered, practice adoption, input use, survival or germination, crop performance, functionality and farmer satisfaction as relevant.<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Submit a concise weekly update every Thursday and comprehensive monthly technical and IPTT reports in English, explaining progress, variances, risks, actions required, lessons learned and priorities for the next period.<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Contribute technically accurate and timely content to FMF and WFP interim and final narrative reports, presentations, case studies, donor visits, evaluations and audits; verify all agricultural figures and support updates to the Project Management Tracker (PMT) and Budget versus Actual (BvA) when requested.<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Document lessons and practical recommendations for sustainability, scaling and future resilience programming in Ghayl Bawazir and other FuTuRe locations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Coordination<\/strong><strong>, Accountability and Handover<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">Coordinate day-to-day technical work with the Project Manager, FSL Program Team Leader, Project Engineer, MEAL team, Procurement\/Logistics, field staff and relevant FMF support departments.<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Maintain constructive technical coordination with WFP, the local Agriculture Office, relevant water and environmental authorities, community committees, water-user groups, suppliers and other stakeholders as authorized by the Project Manager.<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Participate in Field Office, inter-departmental and donor meetings when requested by the Project Manager, and provide accurate technical inputs and timely follow-up on agreed actions.<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Promptly acknowledge official tasks and communications from the Project Manager, WFP and authorized stakeholders, and provide timely, complete and professional responses.<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Participate in community consultations and explain technical choices, eligibility requirements, safe practices, maintenance responsibilities and feedback channels in clear language.<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Refer complaints and protection concerns through FMF\u2019s approved complaints and feedback mechanisms; do not investigate sensitive protection or PSEA cases outside the authorized referral process.<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Prepare technical handover packages that include final specifications, as-built or final site information received from the Engineer, agronomic operating guidance, maintenance schedules, farmer responsibilities, training records and outstanding-risk actions.<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Promote FMF\u2019s quality standards, maintain complete and auditable technical records, and safeguard all assigned assets, equipment and custodial items in accordance with approved asset lists and procedures.<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Perform other agronomy-related duties reasonably assigned by the Project Manager, consistent with the position\u2019s technical scope and the objectives of the FuTuRe project.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><u>QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">Bachelor\u2019s degree in Agronomy, Crop Science, Horticulture, Plant Production, Agricultural Extension, Soil and Water Management or another closely related discipline.
