In many parts of the country, women are forced to give birth at home without medical assistance due to the absence of nearby hospitals or trained midwives, placing them at high risk of complications and death.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1970\" data-end=\"2334\">Yemen has one of the highest maternal mortality rates in the world, with thousands of women dying each year from preventable pregnancy and childbirth complications. The urgent need to establish and support facilities that provide comprehensive care for mothers and newborns has never been more critical. Every day, women and children lose their lives simply because they do not have access to basic medical support.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"\" data-start=\"2729\" data-end=\"2732\" \/>\n<h2 class=\"\" style=\"text-align: center;\" data-start=\"2734\" data-end=\"2821\"><strong data-start=\"2737\" data-end=\"2821\">Improving Maternal and Youth Health in Yemen: A Strategic Partnership for Change<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2823\" data-end=\"3257\">In response to the growing health challenges faced by pregnant and lactating women in Yemen \u2014 especially in areas with fragile medical infrastructure \u2014 the Field Medical Foundation (FMF), in partnership with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), is implementing a wide range of health interventions. Health workers receive training in emergency response and reproductive health, and are also offered incentives to ensure continuity of services.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"3587\" data-end=\"3942\">For pregnant and breastfeeding women, the project delivers holistic care through supported facilities \u2014 including clean delivery kits, family planning services, and psychosocial support. The goal is to expand access to emergency obstetric care, protect women from gender-based violence, and raise awareness around reproductive health in local communities.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"\" data-start=\"3944\" data-end=\"3947\" \/>\n<h2 class=\"\" style=\"text-align: center;\" data-start=\"3949\" data-end=\"4037\"><strong data-start=\"3952\" data-end=\"4037\">A Journey of Hope: Samar\u2019s Story and the Transformation of Maternal Care in Yemen<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"4039\" data-end=\"4422\">In Ras Al-Arah, Lahj Governorate, Samar a 32 year old nurse lives in a community with little access to essential services, particularly healthcare.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"4039\" data-end=\"4422\"><strong><em><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">\u201cWe always had to travel long distances just to find medical care,\u201d she recalls.<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"4039\" data-end=\"4422\">One day, while seeking a facility for childbirth, Samar tragically lost her first baby due to the lack of proper care and delayed access to a midwife.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"4424\" data-end=\"4762\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-15289 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/fmfyemen.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/resized_DSC02799-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" title=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/fmfyemen.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/resized_DSC02799-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/fmfyemen.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/resized_DSC02799-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/fmfyemen.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/resized_DSC02799-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/fmfyemen.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/resized_DSC02799-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/fmfyemen.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/resized_DSC02799-2048x1365.jpg 2048w, https:\/\/fmfyemen.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/resized_DSC02799-600x400.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/>Her life changed when she learned about the Emergency Obstetric and Neonatal Care Center in Seera, Aden. Despite the distance, Samar and her husband made a two-and-a-half-hour journey to reach the center, where she found a safe, supportive environment and a skilled medical team.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"4424\" data-end=\"4762\"><strong><em><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">\u201cI felt like I was at home, surrounded by care,\u201d she said.<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"4764\" data-end=\"5111\">At the center, Samar safely delivered her newborn \u2014 a moment of joy and healing after deep sorrow. Her story is a powerful reminder of the impact that access to quality maternal care can have, especially in underserved areas. In 2024 alone, these centers supported <strong data-start=\"5369\" data-end=\"5395\">22,287 safe deliveries<\/strong>, marking a significant step toward improving maternal outcomes across the country.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"\" data-start=\"5480\" data-end=\"5483\" \/>\n<h2 class=\"\" style=\"text-align: center;\" data-start=\"5485\" data-end=\"5530\"><strong data-start=\"5488\" data-end=\"5530\">A Lifeline for Mothers and Communities<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"5532\" data-end=\"5827\">Projects focused on maternal and youth health \u2014 such as the FMF\u2013UNFPA initiative \u2014 are essential to improving the lives of individuals and communities in Yemen.
